I love autumn because it isn’t dazzling or loud. In September, Virginia still feels warm during the day, but evenings become pleasantly cool. The trees are not yet dressed in full color β€” the green is softer now, touched by the quiet light of fall.

A quiet sign of change.

October belongs entirely to autumn. Within a few short weeks, most of the trees change, and the world becomes bright with colors. The weather is perfect β€” just a sweater and comfy pants, and you can sit on the patio with your favorite latte, watching leaves swirl in the wind.

By November, the air grows cooler. At night, the first frost might sparkle on grass and leaves. Some trees stand bare, while others are still holding on to their colors. Sometimes it rains for days, or the sky turns gray β€” those are my favorite moments to curl up in a chair by the window, under a warm throw, listening to the sound of rain and sipping a latte or spiced tea with cloves and cinnamon.

The first frost β€” autumn’s quiet goodbye.
The last golden light of the season.

And when the sun returns, I love going out with my phone and taking a few photos of autumn. I try to capture it from different angles β€” to see the many faces of the season.

Still life of the forest floor.
Little wonders under the leaves.

What do I love about autumn? Everything, I think β€” the morning freshness, sunlight in the mist, the scent of fallen leaves and wood smoke, the bright palette of nature itself.

Autumn brings a thoughtful mood, inspiration, and a sense that every day is a gift.

If autumn could speak to me, she would probably whisper: life is beautiful, and every day is worth celebrating.
And I would thank her for the beauty she brings β€” and ask her to stay just a little longer.
