Every quilt begins with a simple stack of fabric, full of possibilities.

When I joined the Summer Scrap Bash quilt-along, I felt such joy — not only because I could be part of a group project, but also because it meant I’d get to see what fabrics other quilters were using and pick up tips from the host. It’s funny how we were all making the same blocks, yet sometimes with entirely different methods.

The quilt-along was hosted by Brittany Lloyd https://www.loandbeholdstitchery.com/blogs/quilt-alongs/summer-scrap-bash-2025, who shared weekly instructions with several block options and ideas for how to use them. Quilters used different combinations of blocks, worked with their own fabrics, and chose sizes that fit their vision — so in the end, each quilt turned out completely unique.

Even simple shapes start to tell a story when stitched side by side.

The Summer Scrap Bash was also designed as a scrap buster, which gave me the perfect excuse to sew with leftover fabrics from earlier projects. The process was exciting and inspiring, though life had its own plans — and that’s why I’m still sewing today.

From the same instructions, every quilter creates something unique.

What inspires you more — following a pattern, or finding your own way with the blocks?
