A compass rose stitched to guide summer evenings by the lake.

Summer mornings by the lake feel magical — sparkling water, fresh air, and a promise of adventure. That’s the feeling I stitched into my quilt, Marine Compass, with black, white, and beige fabrics forming a compass rose at the center.

I imagined it for people who spend their summers on a small boat moored by a quiet shore. Most of the time it’s just the two of them, but sometimes friends or grown-up children join in. I can picture this quilt wrapped around their evenings on deck — when the air turns chilly, yet nobody wants to go inside.

The design rests on three colors: black, white, and soft beige. Black gives it structure and boldness, white brings freshness, and beige softens the contrast, like an old nautical map. At the center lies a compass rose — a symbol of keeping course, even if the journey is only from one bay to the next.

For me, this quilt is more than decoration — it’s part of summer stories by the water.

Have you ever spent time on a boat or by a lake? What would you bring with you to make it cozy?
